RVPA/Marin County Fire Department Paramedics
Bret McTigue, MCFD & RVPA
Paramedic Firefighter

Bay area native Bret McTigue was born in Berkeley, just across the bay from
where he now works. A love of the outdoors and helping others led to his career
in the fire and emergency medical services.
Bret
worked as a lifeguard during high school, and attended college at Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo, initially as a forestry major. The service-oriented aspect of being
a lifeguard caught his interest early on. He eventually graduated with a degree
in Recreation Administration, and worked for CAL FIRE in San Luis Obispo,
Oceano, and Pismo Beach.
Bret met his wife Adrienne shortly after graduating from Campolindo High
School in Moraga. She later graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara and became a
nurse, working in general medical surgery. They currently live in Pleasant Hill
and have “lots of family in the East Bay,” but plan on eventually living in the
Marin or Sonoma County area. They have recently had a healthy baby girl, named
Taylor.
Bret
was eventually hired by the Marin County FD as a Paramedic Firefighter, and
often works on RVPA’s Medic 40 ambulance. “I love working for Marin County FD. I
came from a wildland fire background in the south, and enjoy that part of my job
also,” said Bret. “I’m able to keep my Medic skills up working on Rescue 40, but
also have the option of working on the Rescues in West Marin or down in Marin
City.”
His most memorable call was with Engineer Paramedic Ian Adams, when they
responded to a report of a woman in active labor at a building on Sir Francis
Drake. Bret assisted in delivering a healthy baby girl.
Bret
plans on eventually promoting to Engineer and then aspires to be a Captain in
MCFD.
Bret is extremely conscientious in his role as a paramedic within our
organization,” said MCFD EMS Division Battalion Chief Mike Giannini. “Bret has
really "stepped up" for us since coming to work for the Department. I know that
any job assigned to him will be completed in a very professional manner and will
typically exceed my expectations.
He has recently complete his training to be an EMS instructor and is already
making a significant contribution to our educational program."
